Luton Hoo Hotel Photographer 80th Birthday Celebrations

Luton Hoo Hotel Photographer 80th Birthday Celebrations.

I consider myself pretty lucky to be involved in so many happy occasions. I photograph parties, weddings, baptisms, family get togethers, birthdays….the list is endless, and it never fails to delight me!

I think it’s truly special that so many wonderful people take time out from their usually busy lives to just take a moment to spend time with their loved ones. This particular family took a weekend to celebrate their mum’s/grandmother’s 80th birthday!

Cradled in the beautiful grounds and building that is Luton Hoo Hotel, they played, chatted, laughed, ate and generally enjoyed each others company. Oh, and they lucked out totally with the weather too.

I come from a pretty large family myself, so photographing whole family groups doesn’t really phase me. Luckily, as there were 25 of them!

They wanted a few more traditional group shots firstly, followed by some candid photography as they enjoyed a chilled out champagne and canapé reception on the sun drenched terrace. Luton Hoo Hotel do this “oh so well” coupling a laid back ambience and the most wonderful views.

As I snapped away capturing all the moments, one or two things struck me that afternoon.

  1. Isn’t it funny that no matter how grown up we all get, as soon as we’re in the company of our siblings we resort back to being kids again. It’s like no time ever passed and that’s great a tonic.

2. Being 80 and having your children and grandchildren gathered round you to celebrate is a beautiful and simple pleasure. (I hope I am blessed enough to have the same on my 80th!)

3. Families are like branches on a tree.We grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.

I have included a few favourites of our time together…

Photographing older kids Hertfordshire family photographer

Photographing older kids Hertfordshire family photographer.

So, your kids are older now. You have done the sleepless nights, the terrible twos, started new schools, teenage tantrums but you still want them photographed with you.

And they have other ideas.

You tell them you want a family photo shoot and they groan and skulk off to their rooms. I feel your pain! I have three teenagers of my own, with three very big personalities that aren’t going to be told what to do. A family photo shoot with older kids needs to take on another direction…I like to go urban!

In my experience, teenagers don’t want to be sitting amongst bluebells or running through corn fields! But, they don’t mind grunge, or graffiti or industrial, or derelict. And neither do I.

In fact, I really like it. I have a number of locations that I regularly shoot in that fit that description and they look really good with a few older kids and their parents thrown in. They suit a teenagers style and individuality (and maybe their attitude too!) I love the magazine, editorial feel the images have.

Photographing older kids usually takes a little less time than younger ones as they can take a little gentle direction and funnily enough they get bored easier than the little ones, so I keep the pace up a bit to keep the enthusiasm flowing. A family shoot is usually done within two hours. We can go out early or late, to dodge unwanted attention from passers by, and I am open to location suggestions too.

Here are a few of my favourites from a shoot I did a few months back, with an urban feel to it. I have known this family since our boys started primary school together, many moons ago, so it was a real treat to capture them altogether.

I loved their styling, they just look great…

Hertfordshire Party Photography Tewinbury Farm Hotel

Hertfordshire party photography Tewinbury Farm Hotel

I absolutely love seeing happy families together and this 70th birthday party was no exception to that. (70, I know, looking good!)

A huge group of friends and family came together in the always wonderful surroundings of Tewinbury Farm Hotel and managed to keep the whole day a surprise!

I was asked to document the “surprise” moment and a couple of hours at the party and also take a few minutes to do some group shots of the immediate family together. Thankfully the rain held off, if not the wind, and we stepped outside into the gorgeous grounds to take a few. I think birthday girl was still numb from the shock so the cold went un noticed. It is always tricky to strike a balance and capture a relaxed family shot when you have little time and a group to assemble but I think we pulled it off. They didn’t want starchy group photos but did want to all be together in the frame.

What always gets me is how welcome I am made to feel and the warmth that generates from complete strangers. I leave a party shoot feeling encouraged and inspired at how many wonderful people are in our world and, as I go home and start to edit many smiling faces I am reminded that the simple things in life matter most.

Family, friendship, love, health.

Document the moments, don’t forget them…they are just too precious.

Here are a few of my favourite party moments, if you enjoy them and would like your own family, party or event documented I would just love to hear from you!

You can have little nosey here for more details too.

Please just drop me a line and we can chat. x

Bluebell Photo Shoot Hertfordshire What to Wear

Bluebell Photo Shoot Hertfordshire What to Wear.

So, you have booked your bluebell photo shoot and are wondering what to wear.
The following post will explain what works best, in my opinion and why. Of course, it is your shoot and you must be comfortable with what you choose, this is just meant to be a guide to help you.

Strong greens and purples will provide the back drop to your photo shoot.
Don’t try to compete with these!

Sticking to neutral tones and soft hues is a good basis to start with. Pick up to three colours which complement your surroundings and choose your outfits around them.

You can visit a Pinterest page that I put together illustrating a range of bluebell colour palletes here

https://uk.pinterest.com/deniseslark/bluebell-shoot-c olour-palettes/

I would also urge you to keep away from strong and loud patterns, logo’s and bright colours, simple clothing photographs best. I do however, like a bit of texture! A little frill, chunky jumper or scarf, denim jackets all work well.

You may have a little one that likes a pretty dress or one who hangs out in scruffy jeans and a t shirt, all this is fine…just remember your colour paletttes and all will be good!
Remember also that the woods can be quite dark and cool at this time of year so make sure everyone has an extra layer to bung if they need to.

No one wants to be photographed if they are cold and miserable.
As always if there is anything personal that you would like to bring along to your shoot please feel free to do so. This may include a favourite teddy, book or maybe even wellies…all are welcome.

Of course, the bluebells can be enjoyed by all even if you don’t have a photo session booked. Hertfordshire has numerous choices for visiting the bluebells. An enchanting location is Heartwood Forest, you can visit their website here.

( They run activities for kids throughout the year too.)

More information for bluebell hunting can be sourced here…

https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/bluebell-woods-near-you

Just remember to keep to the paths so the bluebells can be enjoyed by everyone.
I am really looking forward to our bluebell photo shoot, I hope you are too!

Oh, and if you haven’t booked a shoot but would like to please get in touch using the links below. x

Hertfordshire Bluebell Photo Shoot

This one is for all of you eagerly awaiting  a Hertfordshire bluebell photo shoot.
Spring is finally springing into action…feel the warmth in the sunshine…look at the daffodils.
It’s almost time for bluebells and they are only here for a short time, which adds to their allure I think.

Time to get out and have that Hertfordshire bluebell photo Shoot, and whilst we are there we could incorporate the blossom too if you like!

The bluebells create a stunning backdrop, amongst the woods, a popular choice of setting for families and photographers and it’s clear to see why… the beautiful colours, the promise of lighter longer days and, the first wafts of warmer air.
As well as my normal photo sessions, (details can be found here), I am also running a small number of mini shoots end of April/ beginning of May which are ideal for those of you who don’t have the time or budget to commit to a full session.
Although “mini”, this offer still includes a pre shoot consultation, a great way for me to find out a little about you and your kids and an opportunity for you to ask me anything you may need to know. Each session will last approx 60 minutes and are suitable for up to a family of 5/6.
Approximately 2 weeks after your shoot, you will have access to your private on line gallery containing approx 20 edited images. From here you will choose 3 favourites which you will receive as 6×9 inch prints plus the jpeg for those images.
A mini shoot is available mid week if that suits you guys with pre schoolers.
Price for bluebell mini shoot…£165
Optional add on…pay an extra £75 for another 5 digital images from your shoot on a disc. (You also have the opportunity to purchase larger prints if you wish to do so.)
***please leave me a facebook message or drop me an email stating your interest and a preferred time and i will come back to you to discuss x***

Hertfordshire family photographer woodland photo shoot

Hertfordshire family photographer  Woodland photo shoot

I had the good fortune of being available when I was contacted by this family to do a rushed, last minute woodland photo shoot a few weeks ago. We grabbed a few hours in the beautiful surroundings of Sherrardswood for a family photo shoot before they left to fly back to India to live nearer their family. We lucked out completely with the weather and the sun shone prettily through the trees making it look more like summer than February!

The two girls relaxed quickly as we played with their bears, finding pine cones for them to nibble on. (Bears do eat pine cones right?!) They had chosen to incorporate the bears into the photos as they hold a special place in their hearts. I think they look really cute!

Hopefully by now, having left their school friends and all that is  familiar to them, the girls are beginning to settle in to their new surroundings and are facing things with the same warmth and enthusiasm that they showed me on our shoot.

That’s a real special part of my job, making connections with lovely people and for a small moment in time being part of their story, capturing moments for them to cherish as they move forward with life.

You may leave people and places behind, but you can carry the memories of them forever.

I hope the prints that they chose from their woodland photo shoot remind them of the years that they spent in England and I wish them much happiness in their new venture.

Herts Wedding Photographer Kids at Weddings

Herts Wedding Photographer Kids at Weddings.

There’s no doubt that kids at weddings add a little something extra. Whether that be mischief, laughter, fun or just a little unpredictability, I love to photograph it. Now I know that kids at weddings aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and that is fine, but often they are there in abundance! You have to admit that most kids play to the camera but they are, at the same time very natural in front of it. Last year I photographed quite a few weddings where the kids were (almost) the star attractions, they got away with that being the off springs of the bride and groom! So, whether they take centre stage or sneak off to some corner to make mischief, they are always up to something and that’s always good to capture. I welcome them!

Here is a collection of a few of my favourite kids at weddings photo’s…

Greek Christening Photographer The Twelve Apostles Hertfordshire

Greek Christening Photographer The Twelve Apostles Hertfordshire.

So, I officially love photographing this little family. This is good as I have done it quite a few times now.

I first got asked to photograph baby number one when he was just a few weeks old. Soon after, his christening followed and I was honoured to be asked to document that special day. Forward a couple of years and along comes beautiful baby number two. Again, I captured him at just a few weeks old this time with his big brother, and again I was just as honoured to capture his christening day too.

This little man was surrounded by his family and friends in the exquisite 12 Apostles Church in Hertfordshire and showed us all that his lungs are working just fine! He clearly wasn’t pleased at all the attention.

This Greek christening was filled with warmth, laughter and love, an occasion which is one of my favourites to photograph. I have put together a few from the day to show this Greek Christening story, I hope you enjoy them.

And should you need a Greek Christening Photographer I would love to hear from you…just use the links below. x

Family Photo Shoot Welwyn Garden City

Family Photo Shoot Welwyn Garden City.

This little gang were after natural un posed photo’s that captured them just how they are. We opted for the woods as everyone knows, kids love the woods. There was plenty to play with and find, so our time together went quickly as the boys played and I snapped away.

I love this type of shoot, I get to see family connections and bonds as everyone relaxes into being themselves…I’m not an airs and graces sort of person! The boys were great, their friendship apparent, although you ‘re not ever too far away from a scuffle around brothers.

I think mum’s choice of rugby shirts for the boys was fab, the bright colours looked great against the backdrop of the woods, they really pop. I have to say that these images from their family photo shoot in Welwyn Garden City are some of my favourites…
