Hertfordshire Bat Mitzvah Photographer The Shire London

Hertfordshire Bat Mitzvah Photographer The Shire London

What’s not to love about photographing a bunch of over excited “teenagers”? The photo opportunities are endless! Mind you, they take enough of their own to fill any memory card. Where do all their photo’s go?!

I have to say that Bar/Bat Mitzvah photography is fast becoming one of my favourites. I love nothing more than seeing generations of family coming together to celebrate. The innocent wide eyed excitement of the young, the wisdom and calm of the elderly and everything in between!

This recent Bat Mitzvah at The Shire London in Barnet definitely didn’t disappoint. I arrived a little before the guests were due, to take a few formal photo’s of immediate family as that was what mum was after. Then, as the sun went down and the frenzy of dancing, singing and frivolity took over I went into “ninja mode”, darting in and out of guests, capturing the action as it happened! (If I had a pound for every time my feet got squashed…) I like to get involved. 🙂

My Bar/Bat Mitzvah photography package includes all the edited images from your celebrations, presented on a USB with permission to print and share with family and friends. It is important to me that I tell the whole story of your celebrations, to capture the true essence of your event. I can provide fine art prints from your gallery, or you may wish to put all of your images into a keepsake book, just ask me for advice I am here to help. Should you need a Hertfordshire Bat Mitzvah Photographer or Bar Mitzvah photographer, I would love to hear from you and happy to chat over your needs.

The following photo’s are just a few of my favourites from The Shire London.

Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer Milling Barn Wedding

Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer Milling Barn Wedding

The scent of lavender filled the air as I walked into this Milling Barn wedding. Is is an exquisite venue and lends itself to rustic, natural styling. The lavender filled jars and hand tied sprigs were a fitting decoration which not only smelt amazing but looked so pretty too.

I arrived to find the girls getting ready, I love this time photographing the preparation. I tend to attract pretty laid back brides and Jasmin was no exception, the atmosphere was calm, the bubbly flowing! As the boys arrived I nipped over to the barn to photograph the final prep in there and to catch them trying to attach their button holes. This is normal, it stumps most grooms and groomsmen…luckily I’m a dab hand at it and happy to help!

I love the mezzanine level at Milling Barn, the sparkly fairy lights create a warm glow and a pretty backdrop to the wedding ceremony. As I waited with the groom, his best man and his father, I listened to his father recollecting days gone by, remembering his son when he was knee high. I just love the emotion at a wedding, it gets me every time.

Their day was overcast, but the dark sky made for great light and drama in the couple photos. We spent 20 minutes or so wandering around the grounds at Milling Barn capturing their first few moments together and husband and wife. I like to keep this un formal and relaxed letting you take the lead, bring a glass of champagne and your elation…that’ll do for me!

I’m all about taking photos that tell the story of your day, capturing souls not fake smiles.

If you are looking for a Hertfordshire wedding photographer I would be delighted to discuss your photography needs with you. Please get in touch, you can use the links below.

Hertfordshire Newborn Photographer

Hertfordshire Newborn Photographer

Having your newborn around is one of the most treasured moments of life. You may not completely realise this at the time, you may be sleep deprived, you may have little or no time for your self, you may even have had a traumatic birth leaving you feeling under par. None the less it is a time worth documenting  it’s so special yet so fleeting. Before you know it that little bundle will be different. Sure, they are still your baby, but they will change as quickly as the seasons. And no doubt as the pressures of everyday life continue you will have forgotten all the tiny things.

As a Hertfordshire Newborn Photographer I strive to capture this short period in your lives in an honest, natural and emotive way. I want to see the connections between you and your baby, not posed, perfect smiles. Life isn’t posed. It’s mostly a muddle, especially with a baby in the house. I want to capture your baby and all their tiny expressions, as well as their tiny fingers and toes!

If they’re asleep I will photograph them asleep…if they’re awake I will photography them awake. In the same breath, if you need to feed or change them I will happily continue to document this, albeit in an unobtrusive way keeping your modesty in mind. I want my photo’s to be real, so when you look back on them you remember all the “stuff”, after all, you’re never getting this time back.

Sessions are relaxed and take place in your house, we do things on your terms where you feel at ease. Siblings are welcome too, after all they were here first!

Although your newborn may not want to share the limelight!

Nor too the family pet…

Photos are the visual narrative of our lives, get in the frame, get your family in the frame and don’t let these moments pass you by.

Newborn shoots are one of my favourites, so I would just love to hear from you if you are looking for a Hertfordshire Newborn Photographer

Biggleswade Wedding Photographer Shortmead House Wedding

Biggleswade Wedding Photographer Shortmead House Wedding

I was thrilled to bits to be contacted by Jennifer and Leon to photograph their Shortmead House wedding. Having previously photographed them and their children I knew instantly that their wedding day promised to be a day to remember. I wasn’t disappointed, it was a dream to photograph with so much going on. Leon and the boys arrived in style, making a huge entrance in the loudest cars ever…much to everyones delight, especially the kids. Jennifer and the girls chose a more demure approach and arrived at Shortmead House by horse and carriage.  A surprise present to Jennifer from Leon. There couldn’t have been a more apt way for horse loving Jennifer to arrive.

Shortmead House proved to be the perfect fit for these two and their guests. (You can contact Shortmead here.)Both beautiful and quirky, this place rocks a laid back relaxed vibe, perfect for family and friends to mingle and for the kids to let loose in true kid fashion! There was even an outdoor swimming pool, how cool is that?

Of course, Mother Nature had to have her say…she threw everything at us. Lightning, thunder, hail storms and rain. We ran inside for shelter, and when it stopped we ran outside for photo’s.

Nothing dampened the spirits though, and eventually the sun arrived. It didn’t really matter though as everyones smiles filled the marquee with light and warmth, who needs to rely on the weather?

Here are a few favourites from the day.

If you need a Biggleswade wedding photographer or perhaps have a wedding planned at Shortmead House, I would love to hear from you, just drop me a line.

Hertfordshire Family and Dog Photographer

Hertfordshire Family and Dog Photographer

Ok, I have to admit I’m really not a dog person. I know, they are a large part of so many people’s lives and families…just not mine. I am not a dog whisperer!

That said, if I get asked if a family can bring their dog along to their photo shoot I am happily 100% YES!

Family photography should involve ALL the family after all, and your gorgeous furry friends are an integral part it. I know this, I’ve seen the love. There’s something about bringing a dog along to a shoot that definitely adds to it. Dogs relax you, they make you laugh and they’re unpredictability certainly rivals the kids! Luckily I’m pretty laid back and patient. Usually I don’t have to wait long to see that magical connection between you and your canine buddies.

It is suggested that we never work with children or animals but I’m not really one to follow the crowd…a bit of chaos never hurt anyone and it makes great photography. I often photograph in the woods, which is the perfect place for a dog walk.

I want your photo shoot to reflect your personalities, whoever you are as a family. Bring along a noisy gang of kids, the family pet, mum’s, dad’s, grandparent’s, cousins….

Or any combination of the above. Just be yourselves, and help me make beautiful, emotive images that will provoke happy memories of a time in your lives that you won’t get back.

Below are a few favourite images of recent photo shoots where the dog came too, I hope you enjoy them…

Luton Hoo Hotel Photographer 80th Birthday Celebrations

Luton Hoo Hotel Photographer 80th Birthday Celebrations.

I consider myself pretty lucky to be involved in so many happy occasions. I photograph parties, weddings, baptisms, family get togethers, birthdays….the list is endless, and it never fails to delight me!

I think it’s truly special that so many wonderful people take time out from their usually busy lives to just take a moment to spend time with their loved ones. This particular family took a weekend to celebrate their mum’s/grandmother’s 80th birthday!

Cradled in the beautiful grounds and building that is Luton Hoo Hotel, they played, chatted, laughed, ate and generally enjoyed each others company. Oh, and they lucked out totally with the weather too.

I come from a pretty large family myself, so photographing whole family groups doesn’t really phase me. Luckily, as there were 25 of them!

They wanted a few more traditional group shots firstly, followed by some candid photography as they enjoyed a chilled out champagne and canapĂ© reception on the sun drenched terrace. Luton Hoo Hotel do this “oh so well” coupling a laid back ambience and the most wonderful views.

As I snapped away capturing all the moments, one or two things struck me that afternoon.

  1. Isn’t it funny that no matter how grown up we all get, as soon as we’re in the company of our siblings we resort back to being kids again. It’s like no time ever passed and that’s great a tonic.

2. Being 80 and having your children and grandchildren gathered round you to celebrate is a beautiful and simple pleasure. (I hope I am blessed enough to have the same on my 80th!)

3. Families are like branches on a tree.We grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.

I have included a few favourites of our time together…

Photographing older kids Hertfordshire family photographer

Photographing older kids Hertfordshire family photographer.

So, your kids are older now. You have done the sleepless nights, the terrible twos, started new schools, teenage tantrums but you still want them photographed with you.

And they have other ideas.

You tell them you want a family photo shoot and they groan and skulk off to their rooms. I feel your pain! I have three teenagers of my own, with three very big personalities that aren’t going to be told what to do. A family photo shoot with older kids needs to take on another direction…I like to go urban!

In my experience, teenagers don’t want to be sitting amongst bluebells or running through corn fields! But, they don’t mind grunge, or graffiti or industrial, or derelict. And neither do I.

In fact, I really like it. I have a number of locations that I regularly shoot in that fit that description and they look really good with a few older kids and their parents thrown in. They suit a teenagers style and individuality (and maybe their attitude too!) I love the magazine, editorial feel the images have.

Photographing older kids usually takes a little less time than younger ones as they can take a little gentle direction and funnily enough they get bored easier than the little ones, so I keep the pace up a bit to keep the enthusiasm flowing. A family shoot is usually done within two hours. We can go out early or late, to dodge unwanted attention from passers by, and I am open to location suggestions too.

Here are a few of my favourites from a shoot I did a few months back, with an urban feel to it. I have known this family since our boys started primary school together, many moons ago, so it was a real treat to capture them altogether.

I loved their styling, they just look great…

Hertfordshire Party Photography Tewinbury Farm Hotel

Hertfordshire party photography Tewinbury Farm Hotel

I absolutely love seeing happy families together and this 70th birthday party was no exception to that. (70, I know, looking good!)

A huge group of friends and family came together in the always wonderful surroundings of Tewinbury Farm Hotel and managed to keep the whole day a surprise!

I was asked to document the “surprise” moment and a couple of hours at the party and also take a few minutes to do some group shots of the immediate family together. Thankfully the rain held off, if not the wind, and we stepped outside into the gorgeous grounds to take a few. I think birthday girl was still numb from the shock so the cold went un noticed. It is always tricky to strike a balance and capture a relaxed family shot when you have little time and a group to assemble but I think we pulled it off. They didn’t want starchy group photos but did want to all be together in the frame.

What always gets me is how welcome I am made to feel and the warmth that generates from complete strangers. I leave a party shoot feeling encouraged and inspired at how many wonderful people are in our world and, as I go home and start to edit many smiling faces I am reminded that the simple things in life matter most.

Family, friendship, love, health.

Document the moments, don’t forget them…they are just too precious.

Here are a few of my favourite party moments, if you enjoy them and would like your own family, party or event documented I would just love to hear from you!

You can have little nosey here for more details too.

Please just drop me a line and we can chat. x

Bluebell Photo Shoot Hertfordshire What to Wear

Bluebell Photo Shoot Hertfordshire What to Wear.

So, you have booked your bluebell photo shoot and are wondering what to wear.
The following post will explain what works best, in my opinion and why. Of course, it is your shoot and you must be comfortable with what you choose, this is just meant to be a guide to help you.

Strong greens and purples will provide the back drop to your photo shoot.
Don’t try to compete with these!

Sticking to neutral tones and soft hues is a good basis to start with. Pick up to three colours which complement your surroundings and choose your outfits around them.

You can visit a Pinterest page that I put together illustrating a range of bluebell colour palletes here

https://uk.pinterest.com/deniseslark/bluebell-shoot-c olour-palettes/

I would also urge you to keep away from strong and loud patterns, logo’s and bright colours, simple clothing photographs best. I do however, like a bit of texture! A little frill, chunky jumper or scarf, denim jackets all work well.

You may have a little one that likes a pretty dress or one who hangs out in scruffy jeans and a t shirt, all this is fine…just remember your colour paletttes and all will be good!
Remember also that the woods can be quite dark and cool at this time of year so make sure everyone has an extra layer to bung if they need to.

No one wants to be photographed if they are cold and miserable.
As always if there is anything personal that you would like to bring along to your shoot please feel free to do so. This may include a favourite teddy, book or maybe even wellies…all are welcome.

Of course, the bluebells can be enjoyed by all even if you don’t have a photo session booked. Hertfordshire has numerous choices for visiting the bluebells. An enchanting location is Heartwood Forest, you can visit their website here.

( They run activities for kids throughout the year too.)

More information for bluebell hunting can be sourced here…

https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/bluebell-woods-near-you

Just remember to keep to the paths so the bluebells can be enjoyed by everyone.
I am really looking forward to our bluebell photo shoot, I hope you are too!

Oh, and if you haven’t booked a shoot but would like to please get in touch using the links below. x
