Tewinbury Farm Hotel Wedding with Les and Vicky

Tewinbury Farm Hotel Wedding with Les and Vicky.

Hertfordshire wedding Photographer.

I admit that every couple I photograph on their wedding day look truly happy, but really, these two really really did!

This  Tewinbury Farm Hotel wedding looked delicious and felt amazing!  The “boys” had been entrusted with the task of decorating the Tythe barn early that morning and actually pulled it off, I’m very certain though that Vicky’s meticulous planning and exquisitely good taste had a lot to do with that! Later on, the couple’s excitement was contagious filling the place with a warm and twinkly atmosphere.

Vicky walked down the isle to a song that Les’ youngest daughter had recorded, a surprise to most, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. (Including mine, something gets me every time!!!) Surrounded by all their daughter’s, family and close friends they made their vows to each other.

Having met with Les and Vicky a few times before their big day I knew that they wanted mostly relaxed, un posed photography, so we took a little time to wander round the beautiful grounds at Tewinbury Farm hotel…I stood back a little and documented their first few moments together as husband and wife.

As the day turned in to night, speeches done, evening guests arrived, cake cut and so the party began. The band played, people danced and laughed and sang and ate and drunk and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Especially the newly weds.

Massive, heartfelt congratulations you two, it was a blast…thank you for having me. x

Ok, I have to admit I’m really not a dog person. I know, they are a large part of so many people’s lives and families…just not mine.

That said, if I get asked if a family can bring their dog along to their photo shoot I am happily 100% YES!  Family photography should involve all the family after all. It is suggested that we never work with children and animals but I’m not really one to listen to others advice either…a bit of chaos never hurt anyone and it makes great photography.

I want your photo shoot to reflect your personalities, who you are as a family. Bring along a noisy gang of kids, the family pet, mum’s, dad’s and grandparent’s, cousins….

Or any combination of the above…just be yourselves, and help me make beautiful, emotive images that will provoke happy memories of a time in your lives that you won’t get back.

Here are a few of my favourite images from a recent photo session in the woods. If you are interested in family photography welwyn garden city or surrounding areas I would love to hear from you. x

Wedding Photography at Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel

Wedding Photography at Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel.

The first time I met both Kelly and Alex they brought along their mini entourage of four boys…yep four boys! They all had a cheeky glint in their eyes so I knew this wedding was going to be fun, relaxed and a perfect match for me. I must add that all four of them sat there, whilst we had a planning meeting with out a peep…such good boys.

This was the first time I had photographed at Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel and the day bloomed bright and sunny. I love a wedding with a bunch of kids around and there were plenty in this wedding party. Kelly and Alex clearly rate family highly and they wanted all the children to play a part. They wanted natural, unposed and honest wedding photography to show the true story of their day…I hope I delivered!

Here are a few favourites of the day…

Hertfordshire Family Photographer-Ayot St Lawrence photo shoot

Hertfordshire Family Photographer-Ayot St Lawrence photo shoot.

Sometimes you have to just roll with it as life doesn’t always go as planned. Our photo shoot day promised sunshine, we got rain! This gorgeous family were coming from further afield than my usual client so when the dark skies and rain appeared half way through their journey it was just too late to change any thing. Lucky for me they were troupers and unfazed by the rain they bounced into our lovely location (Ayot St Lawrence, see more here) with enthusiasm. Lucky for them, I’m unfazed by rain too 🙂

Mum wanted natural images of her children to mark a time in life, nothing too staged, no cheesy grins…she came to the right place.

I have to say these guys made my job easy, just kids being kids, confident, playful and funny. Their personalities shone.

And eventually, so did the sun!

If you need a Hertfordshire Family Photographer I would love to hear from you, just drop me a line.

Enjoy a few of my (many) favourites from our Ayot St Lawrence photo shoot…

Family Photo Shoot for DIY SOS Welwyn Garden City

Family Photo Shoot for DIY SOS Welwyn Garden City

I was recently involved in something really special, something that actually blew my mind!

DIY SOS came to Welwyn Garden City to help a very amazing family and I got to be a part of that. The team came to transform Sascha’s family home enabling her to have kidney dialysis there instead of spending nearly all her week in hospital, allowing her to spend time with her 3 young children, husband and eldest son Charlie at home. Previously they only had one day a week together and they called this “happy Wednesday”.

Gaby, the designer from DIY SOS wanted to fill the house with family pictures of them all, personalising the place and making it feel like home…and I got to take these pictures. As luck would have it we were all free on happy Wednesday, and as huge numbers of local tradesmen sweated and toiled, we got to hang out in the shade of the woods and while away a couple of hours finding pine cones, making paper aeroplanes and searching for fairies…I took a few photo’s too!!!

Up to 200 volunteers helped with the project, and although I got to hang out with Sascha and her charming family I didn’t get to meet anyone involved with the construction and build. What I did get though was a sense of the hard work, grit and determination that got this project off the ground running. I got a sense of a community coming together. I felt peoples pride and warmth, their readiness to give something back. There was positivity, there was kindness, there was selflessness. (Is that even a word?!) I felt proud to be a part of that, I felt excited to be able to give something to this beautiful family that hopefully they will treasure. I hope my tiny part of all this lets them remember one happy Wednesday, one spent laughing, playing and feeling the anticipation that something bigger and life changing was going on.

Their new house enables them to change their lives. Sacha recently posted her gratitude and thanks …” all I’ve ever wanted is to be a great mum and wife. Which is hard when you are never there. Thanks to you I will be around always, never again will I miss the school play, sports day, a bumped head, grazed knee or just simply needing a cuddle!. Words are not enough to describe what you have done. I have lost many friends to this disease and was scared to imagine my future. I lost my dad and my brother when I was young and my biggest fear was that my kids would loose me. Thanks to you I can feel safe now in the knowledge that my health is going to be as good as it can possibly be from now on. Home dialysis is as good as having a transplant. I will never ever forget the summer of 2016 when 200 Angels turned up to help us. Everyone’s contribution has astounded me. I promise that I will live life to the fullest and never take life for granted. I wake up everyday absolutely beaming with joy! You have made my dreams come true and given me my life and whole world back. Thank you amazing people from the deepest depths of my heart x x x x x x x x”

What strikes me though the most is that I think a lot of people would thank Sascha, I certainly would. During a week when I was stressing out trying to figure out how to cope with four kids at home and a work load threatening to send me over the edge, I found clarity. I was reminded of the simple things in life, how we take them for granted and how important they are. I don’t think I was the only one on this project to feel that. I am blessed to be able to spend time with my kids, I am blessed to have my family around me, I am blessed to have good health. I am lucky and so grateful that a very special little family reminded me of this. When I looked back on their  photo shoot and saw their smiles, their cuddles and laughter I knew in an instant that that was what was important. Time together. Forget deadlines, forget your untidy house, forget the bills…just don’t forget the ones you love.

As they emerged from their new home to an army of workers the kids were asked what the new house meant to them. They replied that it meant they could have their mummy back. I am so glad that so many people stood up and made this possible, i’m so glad that Sascha and her family will have a much better quality of life. They deserve it, I think they are great!

There were so many helpers involved in making the magic happen, too many for me to name. My images wouldn’t be looking as beautiful though without the help of Ken Bushbridge from Dragonfly Digital (see more here.) who kindly offered his services and printed all the photo’s.

With the permission of Sascha I am sharing a few of my favourites from the shoot. (There is a lot of black and white as that’s what Gaby wanted!)

Woburn Sculpture Gallery Wedding

Woburn Sculpture Gallery Wedding  with Jennifer and Paul.

I get really drawn in to every wedding I photograph, and this one at Woburn Sculpture Gallery was no exception. I love to hear my couples stories, how they met, their funny quirks, their likes and dislikes, it helps me to understand the subtleties of their day and helps to tell their story. (The bit where she told me her husband- to- be was a wedding photographer was a bit scary, but….!)

Jennifer and Paul’s day was like a fairytale, possibly one of the prettiest weddings I photographed this year. The attention to detail was exquisite, but it was the happiness radiating from the bride and groom that blew me away, they honestly smiled all day long! As friends and family came together,  jokes were shared, the children played, hugs exchanged and the sun shone through out.

The backdrop of Woburn Sculpture Gallery is a treat for any photographer so we walked, talked and shot a few photo’s around the gardens and grounds, and even managed a few just as the sun was setting for the night before the evenings festivities continued.

Jennifer and Paul’s story touched my heart, I think they both found their true soul mate in each other, their Woburn Sculpture Gallery Wedding was beautiful…may their happiness continue on and on.

Family Photo Shoot Hertfordshire Photographer

Family Photo Shoot Hertfordshire Photographer

I was asked for natural, un posed photo’s of the kids…some images that showed their personalities and who the kids “really were”.

Perfect. Trouble was, one little lady just didn’t want to play ball! I get where she was coming from, some days you just don’t want to perform do you? And some days you just want your mum…(no matter how old you are.) And some days a family photo shoot is the last thing you need. This one one of those days, not for me I might add, but for my for my littlest afternoon muse.

Little man was as good as gold, he seemed to quite enjoy the experience. This was not the same for his sister who was just out of her comfort zone and I really felt for her, and her mum too! You want your photo shoot to be relaxed and for your children to be angels, but you know, the truth is life just isn’t perfect like that and things don’t always go according to plan.

What’s the saying?…”life’s not about waiting for the sun to come out, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

Well, it didn’t rain, and the sun did come out actually. Not just from behind the clouds, but from the resulting images. Mum didn’t really want to be in the photo’s but because this little lady just didn’t want to be put down she jumped into the frame for a moment or two. Oh, i’m so glad she did! I love to see the connection between her and her babies, hopefully captured moments that she will cherish forever. It is sometimes the unplanned, the unexpected that really makes your day and this did it for me!

I walked away from our shoot wondering if I had captured enough. I had offered to re shoot if I hadn’t. But, in the end that little lady shined so bright and beautifully I think we pulled it off!
If you would like your own family photo shoot, please get in touch. I promise that I can deal with less than perfect moods!!!

(Thank you Catherine for finding the funny side of our family photo shoot and for stepping into the frame when needed. xxx)

Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer Laura and Andy Hampstead Wedding

Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer Laura and Andy.

I was thrilled to bits when I was approached by this couple to photograph their Camden/Hampstead wedding wedding…my first London wedding!

To say they were my most laid back couple ever is an understatement… they didn’t even visit their wedding ceremony venue! (I’m not even joking.)

I did.

The sun shone and I hopped between two preparation locations to photograph both bride and groom getting ready. Both parties were cool as cucumber, although the groom broke into a little sweat when he dressed his son, mistakenly, in my grey jacket instead of his own. The confusion/ horror on his face as he swamped his small son into my size ? (modesty) jacket was hilarious…for me!

We all left together and made the journey into London in convoy, arriving in plenty of time at Camden Town Hall. If anyone is interested in seeing their location you will find it here.

After a short but sweet ceremony we drove through a busy Camden High Street to get to The Freemasons Arms in Hampstead. A really laid back venue which suited this pair down to the ground, and the place where they would hang out in “the early days”!

I just loved working with this pair and their family, I was welcomed into their warm and happy day, surrounded by their closest loved ones. After a short time wandering along Hampstead Heath for a few photo’s we made our way back to the pub so the celebrations could begin.

Here are a few of my favourites from the day, natural, honest and uncontrived wedding photography.

Hertfordshire Child Photographer Fun Sibling Photo Shoot

Hertfordshire Child Photographer Fun Sibling Photo Shoot.

These two came bounding into my life all smiles and enthusiasm, what a pleasure it was to spend time with them! I loved their natural bond with each other, clearly they get on and their closeness was a joy to capture. Mum was after images of the two of them together as photos of them were few and far between. With family far and wide, she wanted a few to send to grandparents to enjoy too.

We started off in the local woods, took a few shots in the bluebells and moved on. To give a bit of variety I had previously scouted out our location and knew that the graffiti under a nearby bridge would make a great backdrop too…although that did mean me editing out a few choice words! (ooops!)

These guys were natural in front of the camera and took no warming up, resulting in a really relaxed fun sibling photo shoot.

Hertfordshire Child Photographer Bluebells and Blossom

Hertfordshire Child Photographer Bluebells and Blossom

A spring time photo shoot with a gorgeous little lady!

Thank you Scarlett for being my super special model for the afternoon. xxx

We sat amongst the bluebells and visited this fantastic blossom tree that I had found a few days prior to our shoot and celebrated all that is spring!!!

There seems to be a bumper crop of bluebells this year and the location that I use is still bursting with colour. If you fancy incorporating a few bluebells into your photo shoot then NOW is the time!

They won’t be here forever. Unfortunately.
