Tewinbury Farm Wedding Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer

Tewinbury Farm Wedding Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer

So, I woke up on Xmas eve morning as the rain fell heavily and the wind blew a small gale…perfect weather for a wedding!

No photographer wants to be struggling to stand up in the wind as they take photo’s but hey, what’s life without a challenge?

This beautiful Xmas eve wedding was slightly different for me as bride and groom wanted a more portrait style photo shoot, they had very limited time before their ceremony and after so I had to plan their shoot pretty much down to the last spare minute. (I would normally spend the day with you and candidly shoot for most of the day.) We spent time together before the big day discussing what they liked and didn’t like and visited both venues for inspiration.

It was a joy to shoot a Tewinbury Farm wedding, starting at County Hall Hertford for the ceremony. Both are just stunning, contrasting backdrops for photography. Luckily we were able to snatch a little time inside Tewinbury Farm for a few shots, and the cloisters at County Hall provided a little shelter from the rain too. (But not the wind, THAT wind!!!)

It was both an honour and a pleasure to be entrusted with this amazing couples wedding photography, even if we only spent a couple of blustery hours together!

Here are a few of my favourites…

i love a winter photo shoot!

i was delighted to spend time with these two gorgeous gals…they are two of my most favourite people, obviously i was super chuffed to be taking a few photo’s of them just before xmas.

i know many people appreciate a summer photo shoot but i have to say that a winter photo shoot is really quite magical. the afternoon light is soft and pretty, the backdrop of the woods is striking and layering up with jumpers and scarves adds colour and texture.

of course (i have said this before, several times) nothing beats capturing a mum and her child…it’s just “that look”, those simple shared moments. capturing them for you to keep as treasures forever is one of my favourite things. simple.

here are a few of my favourites…quite a few actually because they both look so darn good!!!

i had such a warm, fun time meeting these two.

i always love when a mum gets in the frame with her child, i love to capture that bond between them both. to freeze those moments in time, you know, the ones that are just normal moments that are over and forgotten oh so quickly.

that is what this gorgeous mum was after, just some photo’s of her and her son doing the normal things that they do. the cuddles, the books, the superman impressions! she just wanted memories of how they are right now.

i know for a fact that as her son grows slowly into a man, these images will be cherished by both of them as memories of a time neither of them will get back. treasured little snippets of the love between a mum and her boy.

natural family photo shoot

when i first spoke to this mum of four, she said she would like photo’s that truly represent them as a family, full of character and not too staged. this lovely bunch arrived at our woodland location and i immediately knew that that is what we would get from this shoot! the kids were full of fun and vibrance and we bundled our way through the woods, digging, climbing, balancing and just generally larking around.

the outside location was perfect for a natural family photo shoot, the kids have space to be themselves and their true characters become apparent, resulting in honest photo’s that aren’t posed or contrived.

mum knew that she wanted these shots to match with her newly re decorated house, so she dressed the kids accordingly with pops of green and purple…i think this worked out really well!

here are a few of my favourites…quite a few!

really not sure why grandad wore a dragon suit, but hey, it worked for me!!!

if you would like to book your own natural family photo shoot i would love to hear from you…the woods still look lovely and it’s not that cold!!!

letting the kids run around outside and play is just the best way to get natural relaxed portraits of them. this gorgeous family booked a shoot way back in 2014 and due to one thing or another (black eyes and throat infections to name but two!) we only just managed to get together this summer.  life can be busy, i’m glad we finally made it.

these two were full of fun and spirit and their bond with each other was more than apparent, they were a pleasure to photograph and their little cheeky faces a pleasure to edit afterwards!

here are a few favourites from our shoot…

i had the pleasure of spending an hour or so with Emma Hodson from Pilates Body Harmony a few weeks ago. she was after a few shots to use for promotion of her new business.

this busy mum of 5(…yes, i said 5!),  is running classes in various locations across Hertfordshire. you can find out more details of location and times here.

“pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” Joseph Pilates.

So, what y’all waiting for? go out and do a class now…you’ll definitely feel better for it!

these are my favourites from our welwyn garden city pilates promotional photo shoot…(and yes, Emma really does have 5 children!)

well i spent the morning hanging out with the boys! that was my job, and i’m definitely not complaining!

the girls, the ceremony and the wedding breakfast/party were photographed by the lovely Rebecca at “rebecca wedding photography”. obviously she can’t be in two places at once so when Louise, the bride, decided she wanted groom preparation photo’s too, i was asked along to join the party!

(you can see more from Rebecca here.)

i was also to photograph the barn where the wedding breakfast and party was to be held…but more about that later.

it was a pleasure to document the boys getting ready…and incredibly straightforward…how do they do it so quickly?!!! even with two little boys to dress, the groom and his best man were soon on their way to pick up the groomsmen and parents who caught a vintage bus to the pretty church.

so, back to the barn, which Louise and her family and friends had prepared themselves. to say i was blown away was an understatement! i walked into the barn and could have stepped into another world, it was captivatingly beautiful…no stone was left un turned, the attention to detail was incredible. What an amazing place to have as a venue.

As it happens Louise has started a business hiring and styling events and venues, you can see more from her here.

in the meantime though, here are a few of my favourites from the day…

i absolutely love the variety that comes with my job, so i jumped at the chance to photograph a hen party for the first time!

i knew it would be a lot of fun (even if i wasn’t a guest!)

this “hen” had a 1950’s inspired theme for her afternoon tea party, and had arranged a surprise 50’s dance lesson for her guests. the lovely charlotte from jive swing took to the floor, giving all those fabulous ladies an hour of fun and laughter as they swung away! a fabulous idea for party entertainment.

later in the evening the party continued into london….i’m sure there were a few sore heads (and feet) in the morning!

you can find out more about jiveswing here

and more from the bride to be here. She just happens to run her own events and hire company based in welwyn garden city. as you can see from the photo’s, she’s pretty darn good at it!

i wanted to blog these two ages ago, but the summer went by in such a flurry and here we are now and it’s already feeling like autumn.

how timely then, to look back and remember those early days of sunshine, the golden evening glow and the field full of poppies that i found one day.

these two were absolute naturals in front of the camera. full of personality and fun! they giggled, ran, chatted, cuddled and played in the early evening sunshine. both avid Harry Potter fans, they brought along their wands…i think it’s fair to say that they cast a spell over me!

oh, i nearly forgot to say that their dog, Milly, came along too.

and yes, she was a natural in front of the camera as well!!!

One thing shone brighter than the sun this day, and that was Emma’s smile. Radiant doesn’t come close to describing how she looked, and she coupled this with serenity and composure.

The day was filled with laughter, emotion, warmth and love in the beautiful surroundings of Hanbury Manor, Ware.

I was both honoured and delighted to document the day, thank you Emma and Steve for choosing me to do so x
