bluebells are so last season! welwyn garden city photographer

this gorgeous sea of yellow was a welcome change from bluebells last night!

i had seen this field in all its splendour last year, but never found a way in!

last night was different, we found a way in! (my navigation skills and sense of direction are clearly improving…mind you, they couldn’t have got any worse.) we were on our way back from a family birthday party, and really should have rushed home for baths and homework. life’s too short for that though, it was warm and bright, we went for a little walk…

it wasn’t long before the boys found something better to do…stone digging…

if i lent a helping hand i was promised a couple of shots of them together…and one of middle man, minus the football shirt!
don’t get me wrong, the bluebells are so pretty, dreamy and charming.  when you have spent hours editing all your bluebell shoots though, yellow seems so zingy!

i love that field.

not as much as these boys though.

our first bbq of the year, that can only mean one thing…the kids play with fire!

kids need adventure, kids need to explore, kids need to find their own boundaries. that’s just my opinion, there’s no guarantee that i’m right.

it seems that whenever a bbq is lit, we cook, we eat, they make bbq’d bananas stuffed with chocolate, then they collect wood and burn it. their fascination with fire never ceases, they stand watching the flames flicker, they get lost in the smoke…and i stand by and watch, i let them play.

lately though i see my lessons being re taught by my eldest son. he teaches his youngest brother not to stand too close, he tells him why dry leaves crackle, why the damp wood smokes and most importantly he explains that you have to treat fire with respect and play safely. finally he plays fireman with him and puts the fire out with the garden hose, damping down the surrounding area. games i hope they will remember long into adulthood. they make me proud.

these photo’s were taken in the dark, in the fire light…i wanted to remember this moment of their childhood.

bluebell photo sessions welwyn garden city photographer

angels with dirty faces photographyApril 17, 2014

hooray!

spring has finally sprung..look at the sunshine…look at the bluebells.

they are only here for a short time, which adds to their allure i think…it’s now time to get out and have that bluebell photo session. creating a stunning backdrop, amongst the woods, the bluebells are a popular choice of setting for families and photographers and it’s clear to see why… the beautiful colours, the promise of lighter longer days and, the first wafts of warmer air.

as well as my normal photo sessions, (details can be found here), I am also running a small number of mini shoots over the next few weekends which are ideal for those of you who don’t have the time or budget to commit to a full session.

although “mini”, this offer still includes a pre shoot consultation, a great way for me to find out a little about you and your kids and an opportunity for you to ask me anything you may need to know. each session will last approx 60 to 90 minutes and are suitable for up to 3 children.
approximately 2 weeks after your shoot, you will have access to your private on line gallery containing approx 20 edited images. from here you will choose 3 favourites which you will receive as 6×9 inch prints.
these sessions will take place over the weekend 2nd and 3rd May 2015, i also offer these mid week if that suits you with pre schoolers.

price for bluebell mini shoot…£145
optional add on…all the images from your shoot on a disc £155  (you will also have the opportunity to purchase larger prints if you wish to do so.)

***please leave me a facebook message or drop me an email stating your interest and a preferred time and i will come back to you to discuss x***

…that’s about the sum of it!

i think i may have mentioned before that i think having boys may be similar to having dogs…simple really, they just need a run out every day! i am probably doing many boys an injustice, but not mine.

this was one of those days. it all started well, chilled out morning, brunch, more chilling. then of course the bundling starts, and the play fights and they start kicking a ball around the house. (how many times have i asked them not too?!)

we needed to “get out”, so”out” we got.

it was raining and the windiest day ever but it was better than inside, we braved it. (“oh no” says one of them, “do you have to bring your camera?”)

i was beginning to think that he was right, i couldn’t see what i was doing, the wind was so strong blowing my hair in my eyes. the rain kept raining, but we kept on walking. it was then that they found THE MUD…

these photo’s aren’t going to win any prizes for technical excellence, but they captured our afternoon, and i’m so glad i took them. now, i will remember a moment in time and my boys’ madness, their quest for fun, freedom and dirt.

i will also remember a time when smiles and belly laughing came before “don’t get dirty”. i’m kind of chuffed about that.

this morning my youngest recalled his roll in the mud…”that was the best day EVER mummy, wasn’t it?”

he stole my heart…welwyn garden city photographer

…watch out for yours!

i met this little family a few weeks back now and have been dying to show a few of their photo shoot images. this young man was charming, funny and eloquent…more eloquent than many adults i know! (sorry adults!)…and he’s only two and a half. to say he stole the show is an understatement, although his favourite ducks and frogs did share some of the limelight.

we spent a couple of hours playing in the woods, had a pine cone tea party with his doggy, he got to play aeroplanes with his daddy and had cuddles with mummy. he was great.

i loved this families choice of colours, their neutral colour jumpers blend perfectly with the woods and the natural setting and their closeness and happy personalities made this photo shoot really fun. oh! i almost forgot to mention the wellies, such a perfect pop of colour.

here are a few of my favourites, i hope you enjoy x

has spring sprung?

welwyn garden city photographer

they are cutting the grass outside my house as i type…this can only mean one thing…spring has sprung!

it’s definitely warmer, i’ve definitely seen snowdrops, and the bluebells will definitely be here soon. this is a good thing, we like longer evenings, warmer days, flowers, leaves, flip flops …it’s an endless list.

i am now taking bookings for bluebell shoots, so for all of you that have spent the winter hibernating now is the time to get out and about, smell the fresh air and get some colour back in your cheeks!!

there are  many beautiful locations around hertfordshire, perfectly enhanced soon by the arrival of bluebells, i can suggest a location to suit.

if you are interested and would like me to contact you once they start flowering please drop me a line or call

smiles all round welwyn garden city photography

so my sister muzzled in and joined in to the woodland mini shoots that took place this half term.

she’s been badgering me for photo’s of her three since xmas…xmas 2013, so this little session was long over due! she was after a few, serious, pensive shots, but two of my kids decided to join us and all of that fell by the wayside as mine played the fool behind me and everyone fell into fits of giggles!
i personally think this wasn’t such a bad thing…the serious faces can wait…i love their smiles

(i may now consider employing my eldest son and my youngest son as professional photographer assistants, or fools, i haven’t decided yet!)

anyway, i can’t stop looking at these…their little faces make me happy, their individual personalities shine on. i hope you enjoy looking at them too…it’s a pretty big share.

if you would like a woodland shoot, a shoot at home or any location of your choice please contact me to book a session for the up coming months. it would be lovely to hear from you x

james bond impressions, drumming and ice cream welwyn photographer

…seems a perfectly natural way to spend the day when you’re 7!

he’s lucky enough to have a birthday close to half term so we were able to spend an afternoon in the holidays doing fun things. i remembered to take my camera so amused myself snapping away…glad i captured the james bond games…nothing beats a childs imagination. the old building provided welcome shelter from the rain whilst we waited for our  drum studio session and meant the boys could let off a little steam!

note to myself…take ear plugs to a drum studio! oh, the benefits of hindsight. yes it was noisy, very noisy, but the kids enjoyed themselves. (i guess that’s the main thing) i didn’t think anything got louder than our drum kit at home, believe me, six drum kits in one room is very much louder.

in search of a little quiet time we went for ice cream, hot chocs, cold chocs, sodas, doughnuts…if you can’t indulge on a birthday hey?!

here are a few snap shots of our afternoon, oh, and if anyone else is silly enough to arrange a drumming session they are really cool here…

photo shoot at home welwyn garden city photographer

many people love to have their photo shoot outside, kids love the freedom to run around, and this helps to create beautiful natural images. but, on the same note i find families are very relaxed in their own homes, children feel in control in their own environment, so why not have your photo shoot at home?

whilst it’s cold and maybe wet outside, home is safe and dependable, and natural lifestyle shoots make beautiful images.

the soft winter sun, streaming through a large window creates a gorgeous backlight, the perfect setting for a picture. (and we don’t have to rely on the weather!) even a dull dreary day can throw enough light for stunning dramatic images, these look great in black and white!

capturing children and families at home, doing their “own thing’ is one of my favourite things…i love the personal, intimate and natural images created in this setting.

if you would like to chat about a photo shoot at home, i would love to hear from you! use the “email me’ link below or just give me a call!
