twinkle twinkle little star angels with dirty faces photography

this little man gets my vote for little star this year. i first met him when i had the pleasure of photographing him at only a few weeks old, he behaved like a perfect gentleman then. the second time we met was at his christening, last month…again he was such a bless!

as friends and family arrived he peered through his big brown eyes taking it all in. his two godmother’s took it in turns to hold him throughout the christening and he gurgled happily at the priest. he did create a little as he was dipped..but who wouldn’t? it must have been a bit of a shock!

it was a beautiful ceremony, relaxed and the love for this little man was apparent on all the faces watching. i felt honoured to be part of his special moment!

here are a few of my favourites of the occasion, the parents received both black and white and colour images.

if you would like your special occasion recorded, i would love to hear from you

it’s all about location hertfordshire photographer

it’s all about location hertfordshire photographer

i love my job, and the many different challenges each session brings. each and every client will have a different vision of what they want and will listen to this and make suggestions on location depending on their needs.  this week i did a photo shoot for a gorgeous (grown up) couple who needed an urban backdrop for their images, (watch this space for more of that later, the photos are top secret until xmas!) this meant i had to find the perfect location for that shoot, so off i went searching, dragging my lovely model around hertfordshire car parks!

the following images were taken at the top of The Galleria, Hatfield. it wasn’t the location we ended up using, but i loved the results anyway! i think it makes a great background for a teenage photoshoot, it suits perfectly an attitude and a bit of grunge! if you are interested in getting your tweens/teens in front of the camera before you have no say over what they do, i would love to hear from you.

*ps, the “teen” in these shots is my daughter… and yes, she does smile, she’s just perfecting her pout!*

i’m pleased to be able to finally share this shoot, this was another one which had to be kept under wraps for a while, another surprise birthday present!

it was so nice to get to know these two, we spent time in their garden, capturing moments spent on the swing that their dad made them. they are both keen musicians, so we included the violin and piano in a few of the shots, then ventured out into the woods for some more casual photos.

we got rained on, but the sun did shine for a while…i think it was their smiles that lit up the woods the most though!

here are a few favourites from that shoot…

42 days of summer hertfordshire photographer

42 days of summer hertfordshire photographer

last year i did a project 365, a photo a day for a year. i really enjoyed the challenge and the results are my diary for that year, memories cherished. i was ready for a break though, or so i thought. a few months on and i began to miss it, so i decided on a mini project…42 days of summer…a photo a day throughout the summer holidays. a reminder of our summer, gone by so quickly, each image once again tells a story. they keep me warm as the days grow cold.

it is said that kids age you, but i think it’s more true to say that they keep us young. as all mine grow older i treasure our moments spent idling the days away. i quickly forget the bickering, teenage arguments and tears. i look back on these photo’s and am reminded of the laughter, the silliness and our little adventures together. i am so proud of them all.

so thank you kids

thank you for the days…

here are our 42 days of summer x

as soon as i met this family of 10, i knew we were going to have a fun shoot! the children bounded along as we wandered to our location and i heard how the family visiting from new zealand were able to do so as they had won tickets from a photography competition (…perhaps it shouldn’t have been me taking the shots?!)

i love the energy in these photo’s and the gorgeous early autumn mist that gave way as the morning passed, to that golden sun that fell softly onto the children’s faces as they played in the long grass. i think it’s fair to say that autumn is my favourite season for photo shoots!

i hope these photo’s stand as a reminder of your time together and your “special” birthday. (i won’t say how special!) it was a real pleasure to capture you all.

i love the woods, and this family think the same so we decided on a shoot in sherrardswood, welwyn garden.

mum wanted some family shots, and what struck me was their closeness, it was lovely to see their connection with each other.

(maisy, the dog came along too…although she couldn’t sit still for too long!)

here are just a few of my favourites from the session…

mum’s in the frame hertfordshire photographer

mum’s in the frame hertfordshire photographer

a comment from a client the other day got me thinking about how self conscious us mum’s are in photo’s. we concentrate on the wrinkles, the messy hair, the wonky smile….you name it, we have it!

but, is this important? of course it isn’t.

we concentrate on these things but that’s not what matters. will our children look back on moments captured between us and them and notice or care about our wrinkles, messy hair, wonky smiles etc? of course they won’t, the memories those images depict are what will count…and last forever.

(although they will definitely laugh at what we were wearing!)

we are all so busy, and are forever saying “doesn’t time fly”…it’s so over used and yet so true. all these shared moments are so quickly forgotten, yet so precious…we will never get them back.

so, with this in mind i have made a promise to myself to get in the frame more. (if only to prove to the kids in years to come that i was in fact very there!) i owe it to myself and my kids too. i know that it won’t only be me that treasures these photo’s, i know that in years to come they will be treasured by my children too, and possibly their children after that. they will in fact become a piece of our family history.

i made a little gallery of a few of my favourite photo’s from recent sessions where mum did in fact take that big step, and get in the frame. well done all you beautiful mum’s…i know you will never regret it!

*if you are feeling brave enough, give me a call and book your session with the kids…or just call to discuss x*

two little lovelies! hitchin photographer.

these two were so sweet, we had a lovely morning in their nana’s garden, making a photo gallery for their daddies birthday present.

it was dry, bright and warm…a perfect morning for playing (and taking photo’s)

i particularly liked the black and white shots of this shoot, and i think mum did too as she chose several to put on the wall as canvasses…which i happen to think will look great together!

thanks for taking the time to stop by x

a present for grandad welwyn garden city photographer

a present for grandad welwyn garden city photographer

i got the opportunity this summer to photograph two of my nephews and their cousins together. previously my nephews would come under the category “most camera shy subjects”! but they were on their very best behaviour as this shoot was a present for grandad! i have to say they rose to the challenge and did their mum proud, as did their cousins.

we couldn’t have picked a wetter, more stormy day for the shoot. forty five mins beforehand the skies were dark and the rain pouring heavily. we almost put it off, and then the sun shone and lit up the woods and the steam created a stunning effect in the light…

here are a few from that session.

(if you would like a “present for grandad,” or anyone else for that matter, please feel free to contact me to discuss.

an evening photo shot welwyn garden city photographer

an evening photo shoot welwyn garden city photographer

i decided a couple of weeks ago to take the trip to Hitchin Lavender   http://www.hitchinlavender.com   as they were open for a late evening. i took plenty of cameras to keep the kids occupied and of course one for myself! the sun was setting and the field of lavender glowed in the golden light, bees were busy, buzzing around us but that didn’t bother my four. i was pleased to have them all with me and they even humoured me by letting me take a few quick shots of them together!

it is a beautiful setting at this time of year, and the entrance fee allows you to cut your own bunch of lavender to take away. there is a beautiful 17th century barn there which sells products made from the lavender grown as well as a huge collection of locally made cakes and goodies! (unfortunately we were too late for that, but there is always next time!)

so, we have since dried our bouquets of lavender and the sweet aroma fills the house now on these warm summer nights. just a little reminder, along with the photo’s, of a perfect hour spent in a perfect location , on a perfect summers evening!

i think i may have “over shared” here…i just couldn’t help myself!!!

(please note, Hitchin Lavender charge a £50 location fee to anyone wishing to do a professional shoot there)
