HOW TO FIND A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER PERFECT FOR YOU – IN FIVE EASY STEPS
So you’re getting married and now wondering how to find a wedding photographer perfect for you and your day. I totally get that this can be a little daunting – there’s a lot of noise out there! For most couples, wedding pictures are the one thing left after your wedding has passed, so choosing a photographer to capture the story of your day is a decision you’ll want to get right. I’m here to help you navigate this so you can be sure that you’ve found a wedding photographer that’s a perfect fit for you both.

STEP 1. SETTLE ON A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE
A good place to start is to decide what style of wedding photography you love.
You’ve only got to open Instagram to see there’s a lot of different shooting and editing styles. You’ll notice that some wedding photographers focus on capturing natural moments whilst others favour an editorial, direction driven approach. Choose a style that reflects how you want your day captured. Do you want to immerse yourself into the day letting your photographer document your moments candidly without minimal intervention, or would you like a choreographed wedding shoot that leaves you with styled cinematic images?

STEP 2. CHOOSE AN EDITING STYLE YOU LOVE
Put simply, an editing style determines how your final images will look. Each wedding photographer has their own way of doing this and there’s a lot of variety! You’ll get a feel for this when you look into a photographers website or social feed. Some will display images that are bright and saturated with colour, others go for a dark and moody vibe or light and airy. The more you look, the more you’ll see and I’m sure you’ll be drawn to one over the rest. The most important thing is that an edit is consistent and that you get a definite feel for it throughout a feed or website. You’ll want to know what to expect.

STEP 3. NOW IT’S TIME TO DIG DEEPER
You’ve decided on a shooting style as well as your editing preference, that’s fab. Now go and have a good nosey at the photographers that you’ve whittled down. It’s important to check that you like their vibe, after all they will be with you for most of your day. You should get an idea from their website and social accounts, does their personality suit yours? Equally important is whether their wedding photography is consistent. One great shot doesn’t make a great wedding photographer. You’ll want someone who can capture great shots all day, creating awesome images from all your moments both big and small. At this point, it’s a good idea to have checked the prices and packages because everyone has a budget in mind!

“YOUR STYLE FITTED OUR BREIF PERFECTLY! THAT RELAXED, COMFORTABLE, EASYTO GET ON WITH KINDA VIBE.”
step 4. speak to the wedding photographers that you think will be perfect
I can’t stress this enough, and it’s something I make sure I do with ALL my couples. Some photographers don’t, but for me this is a big one. I want to know about you both and I want to hear about your day and the people in it. You can’t photograph a wedding from the outside and hearing all the details helps me hit the ground running. Every family dynamic is different, every couple has their own groove and feeling comfortable around each other is a deal breaker in my opinion. You matter to me. Feeling at ease with your wedding photographer is paramount. And if you’re feeling like you’re a good fit, ask all the questions.

STEP 5. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
I’m happy to be asked anything! But wedding related questions should include, what’s included in the package and how many hours this covers. It’s often a good idea to ask to see a whole real wedding gallery to check consistency. You might want to know whether your photographer has a plan in place in case they can’t make it on the day. If you’re a camera geek, knowing what gear they use would be interesting. Ask about steps for booking and what happens after the day. Remember that say there’s no such thing as a silly question!
