5 Easy Steps to Help You Find Your Perfect Wedding Photographer.
Step 1. Settle on a Wedding Photography Style.
So, you’re getting married! You need to know how to choose your perfect wedding photographer. A good place to start is to decide what style of wedding photography you love. Trawl through wedding photographers websites looking at what they do. You’ll notice that some focus on capturing natural moments whilst others are more at home setting up posed shots. Similarly, editing styles vary greatly. Notice how some photos are light and airy, others might be dark and moody. There will be many to choose from so my advice here is to go with your heart. Choose a style that reflects how you want your day captured.
Step 2. Dig Deeper.
Once you have chosen a wedding photography style, presumably you’ll have book marked a few favourite photographers websites. Time now to look a little closer! Does their website show consistency? Do they have just one or two great shots with not much else to show, or is their portfolio full of stuff you love? Moreover are they within your price bracket? A word of warning here though. Remember, that if something sounds to good to be true…it probably is! A cheap wedding photographer might just be a false economy. Check out previous clients testimonials and reviews on social media. On a similar note, compare packages, make sure you are clear about what is included in the price shown.
Step 3. Chat to Your Favourite Wedding Photographers.
I’ll always meet each couple before booking. Many photographers don’t, and that’s fine. But, you must chat! Your perfect wedding photographer is going to be with you all day long. You need to know that you’re going to get along. Getting a feel for someone is priceless in my opinion, and being able to talk freely about your plans for the day important. Ideally you will both be singing from the same song sheet and you should feel comfortable in their presence. Ask questions and look to see that your perfect wedding photographer is interested in you both too. If you are meeting in person ask if he/she can bring along sample prints, books and albums for you to look at. It’s a good way to get an idea of what to expect for yourselves. This meeting should answer all your questions. However, a great wedding photographer should be at the end of a phone with any on going questions or concerns that you might have. (I know I am ๐ )
Step 4. Tie up Loose Ends and Gather Extra Information.
Don’t be afraid to ask for more information. You might at this point have a definite idea of who you want to photograph your day. On the other hand, you might still be unsure how to choose your perfect wedding photographer. You can ask your wedding photographer to see full wedding galleries and most will be happy to show them off. This is a great way to really see what your wedding photographer is capable of. A wedding gallery should show the whole story of the day, not just chosen highlights. secondly you must be sure of what is included in your price package. How many hours photography is included, are all the photos included in the price? Likewise, is an album included or will you be charged if the wedding day is running late. In the same vein you might want to ask how long you’ll have to wait for your photos after the wedding.
Step 5. If You Love it All, Book Your Perfect Wedding Photographer.
If you tick all the above boxes then go ahead and book! Wedding photographers can get booked up 1/2 years in advance. Especially during the summer months. You will be required to pay a booking fee and will be told when the final balance is due. This can vary from photographer to photographer but a guide is 2 weeks to a month before the big day. It’s a super exciting time and you’ll have a load to think of. Importantly though, it’s a happy time and you should feel confident in your choice of suppliers. I hope this helps you make an informed choice when wondering how to choose your perfect wedding photographer!
