The Night Yard Wedding

I first met C and S back in 2016 when I photographed a special family birthday party. It was also the night that they got engaged. Needless to say I was thrilled to bits when they got back in touch to ask me to document their Night Yard wedding. Then double thrilled to bits when I saw their venue. The Night Yard, Canterbury is a venue right up my street…relaxed, quirky and full of character. Although a little further away than my usual wedding area, I am familiar with Canterbury as my daughter is at University there.

Obviously it was “meant to be”.

As C and S planned their big day it became apparent that it was to be a wedding full of traditions from far and wide. Families were to gather from Columbia and Zimbabwe to celebrate this very special day. Filling The Night Yard with excitement, laughter and a massive dose of lively colourful characters. To say it was a joy to photograph is an understatement. Thank you everyone for making me feel so welcome.

Keeping true to British tradition the rain fell on cue, but did nothing to dampen spirits. (I was pretty wet though!) Both C and S were troopers and braved the weather, armed with umbrellas, for a few bride and groom shots. Traditionally, the bridal party treated us to a Zimbabwean wedding dance before the Persian wedding feast.

As day turned into night, speeches were given. Guests bubbled away merrily, enjoying the warmth and atmosphere of this very memorable day. The night Yard proved to be the perfect hosts. Being both friendly and helpful, funny and professional. I hope to be able to photograph there again.
