A relaxed and colourful Houchins Farm Wedding.

When Laura and Tim approached me to be the photographer for their Houchins Farm wedding I was thrilled to bits.  I met them both a few prior as Laura’s mum had chosen me to be her Hertfordshire wedding photographer too. (You can see that here.) Being asked back is a huge compliment. Furthermore, it’s an extra treat to photograph a few familiar faces.

*Little 2019 update…I’ve now photographed her sister’s wedding too!*

Before each wedding I make a trip to the venue, especially if I haven’t shot there before. Oh my, was I excited after visiting Houchins?!  It’s a bit geeky I know, but I really do get a buzz from a great venue. Helpfully,  the super friendly and laid back wedding coordinator took the trouble to show me around then gave me the freedom to explore a bit too. In my opinion it’s good to get a feel for a place before the big day.

Having met with Tim and Laura a couple of times before the day meant I knew what they wanted from their wedding photography. More over, they trusted me to deliver. Of course, I love that kind of gig! Spending time with them beforehand meant I knew that they were happy to spend some time getting some lovely images of just the two of them. Also, I knew they’d be ok when I suggested a few “off beat” locations for our shots.

Why a Houchins Farm Wedding Could be Your Choice too.

The barn at Houchins is a Grade 2* listed farmhouse, both elegant and homely. Its  rich history dates back to the 15th century. The lovingly-restored wedding barn is designed in an unique modern style. Providing a neutral backdrop for your own wedding theme. The farm prides itself on being one of the most original wedding venues in Essex and boasts luxurious listed accommodation for the bridal party and guests.

Houchins is a family-run business so you are guarunteed a personable service.  In addition, they can cater for  25-150+ guests and is suitable for weddings in all seasons. As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer it was a pleasure to shoot there!

I need to mention the wedding dress.

I have to say that Laura’s Needle and Thread wedding dress had me drooling, similarly her colourful floral bouquet was really unique. (Made by the lovely Gilly at Gilly Bean Flowers.) Laura told me that when she first saw her dress she instantly knew that it was “the one”. She was right.

So all this, coupled with some great weather and super gorgeous family and friends resulted in a pretty fantastic day. Apart from the bride and groom shots I captured the rest of the day candidly, happily keeping an eye on all the emotion, connection and laughter.

Documenting each wedding day honestly and naturally is my aim, telling your story as it unfolds. I don’t want false smiles, just souls.

This was my first Houchins Farm wedding and I hope there will be many more. I love the backdrop, it suits me and my documentary wedding photography style. And, as you will see from my favourites from Laura and Tim’s wedding gallery it suited them too.

“When it came to choosing a Houchin’s Farm wedding photographer for our wedding back in September, Denise was the obvious choice. Having seen the fantastic job she had done for my Mum’s wedding, we knew we’d be in safe hands.
From our first meeting together, she was full of enthusiasm about being part of our day. Throughout the ceremony, she did an amazing job of capturing all those intimate moments, without being too intrusive. Denise is such a genuinely warm person, and she just felt like part of the family, which is exactly what we wanted.
We couldn’t have been more thrilled with the end result. The photos she produced were even better than we could have hoped for, and clearly displayed what a talented photographer she is. If you’re still undecided about who to choose to capture your big day, look no further….Denise is the woman for the job!
Thank you so much for the beautiful memories you have left us with. You are a true gem. Laura and Tim. Xx”
